Detailed Product Description

Ant house is a product conceptualized from a test carried out on a spaceflight where US scientists researched the behaviour of ants in weightless conditions. Ant world allows one to study the behaviour of ants in a unique, self-contained environment. Its nutrient gelatin is full of nutrients specially formulated for the needs of the ants. The clear nutrient gelatin allows one to observe the amazing network of 3D tunnels formed by the ants as they work. The nutrient gelatin is specially concocted from a sea plant source, has no heavy metals and is safe to handle.
1) Where do I obtain the ants from? Which kind of ant is suitable for Ant World?
You can collect the ants from any outdoor areas, preferably the kind that build their nests underground. You can use black ants, red ants, brown ants or any kind that dig tunnels in soil.
2) How many ants can I put in the Ant World?
Approximately 10-25 ants that are under 8mm in length, and 8 ?15 ants above 8mm in length.
Make sure the ants come from the same family or they will fight and kill each other.
3) How long does it take for the ants to dig a beautiful tunnel?
Different kinds of ants require different lengths of time to build the tunnels. On average, ants take one month to build a network of tunnels.
4) Can the nutrient gelatin be re-used?
Yes, the nutrient gelatin can be re-used again. If the gelatin is too dry, ask an adult to put the container into the microwave for 30 seconds or place it in hot water for 3 ?4 minutes with the cover open. When the gelatin cools down, it will be ready to be used again!
5) How long can the ants survive in the Ant World?
The life span of ants in the Ant World spans about one to three months.
6) How do the ants get fresh air?
The two holes in the cover of Ant World allow sufficient air for the ants to live and work.
7) How can I collect the ants?
Locate an area that has ants. Prepare a plastic bag. Use a small piece of paper to guide the ants into the plastic bag. Then transfer the ants from the plastic bag into the Ant World container.
8) Is the nutrient gelatin safe?
Yes, the nutrient gelatin is perfectly safe for use. It is free of heavy metals and sterilized to kill all microbes. It is non-toxic and recyclable.
