Almost every industry operates key mechanical equipment which relies on the proper functioning of a variety of precisely engineered tensioned, and non-tensioned and industrial rings. These critical components are found in a wide range of operations. From slow-moving hydraulics through compressors and pumps to rapidly reciprocating, high pressure / high temperature gas seals. Industrial ring wear or ring failure on expensive capital machinery can be crippling, particularly when down-time and lost production are added up.
RING TYPES
Some common shape of piston rings used in various applications are as follows:
Plain Section
The most fundamental type of compression ring used for all forms of compressors, pumps and other applications.
Taper Faced
Shortens running-in period and increases oil scraping ability of the ring.
Internal Chamfer / Internal Step
When installed the ring twists itself, thus improving its oil control qualities.
Barrel Faced (Symmetric)
The natural working profile of a piston ring is a barrel face. By pre-profilling, the rings running-in period will be reduced and oil film forming characteristics optimised.
Nasen Rings
The Nasen Ring can take one of serveral forms - Plain Faced or taper faced, square face or undercut depending on the attributes of application.
SOC
Slotted oil control rings remain the standard type of oil rings for many industrial application
SOC2k
For increased oil scraping performance these type of rings offer increased wall pressure at the contact lands.
RING JOINTS
Although critical, the ring's cross sections are only one element in the overall design consideration; joint configuration is another mportant factor as it helps to control the way in which the ring behaves.
Butt Joint
Standard type joint Bevel Joint
May be left handed or right handed 45 Degree or 60 Degree
Lap Joint
Improved sealing ability Radial Box Lap
Also known as a gas tight joint
So ring geometry is a crucial part of determining the ring's functional characteristics and combined with Baneet International`s knowledge of piston rings with correct material specification have created a wide range of piston rings for every engine.
