Shaanxi Province is the home to the folk woodcut new year pictures, which are very famous in China. The art originated in Song and Yuan dynasties, prevailed in Ming Dynasty and became prosperous in Qing Dynasty. When Feng Jicai, Chairman of Chinese Folk Literature and Art Society inspected Shaanxi woodcut new year ptcture, he wrote,"New Year picture of various styles are so good, but Shaanxi style is naturally on the top." In 2006, Shaanxi Woodcut New Year Picture was listed in the fist group of Intangible Cultural Heritage in China.
