Graphite electrodes are used in Electric Arc Furnace and Ladle furnace. For the need of manufacturing and usage, the electrodes are much longer in the actual process of production, and they will be connected with many pieces of short electrodes by conical graphite nipples. The effectiveness of energy utilization and normal melting work is greatly influenced the correct joint between graphite electrodes.

In the using process of torque wrench, in order to guarantee the good using of graphite electrodes, the requirements are as follows:

1. The conical nipple’ s threads has no damage, no dust and impurities;

2. There should have an optimum value for wrenching electrodes, the strength should be neither too strong nor too weak. If the wrenching strength is too strong, the electrodes would twist off easily. If too weak, it might cause electric arc in the joint of electrodes, the joint would be sudden rubefacient, oxidized, pencilling, and then break off., so properly controlling the wrenching strength is very important.
