The roll-fed labeler just described is often referred to a "linear" machine in the industry, it was designed specially for round container (glass/metal/pet bottles). Containers enter the machine through an infeed conveyor and are separated and metered by a rotating feed screw and/or a "starwheel" with pockets. Labeled ones are delivered to a rotating vacuum drum which is carrying the cut and glued label. Containers are rolled across label. The labeled container is discharged from the drum conveyer. Labels are supplied in the form of a continuous web and cut in precise registration with a printed graphic. These are coated with a customized hot-melt adhesive pattern using a glue wheel applicator. Coating only the leading and trailing edges of the label to minimize adhesive consumption. The speed can be 400bpm.
