Application:IPTG is used in cloning experiments that require the induction of beta-galactosidase activity. It is often used in conjunction with the x-gal or bluo-gal to reorganize the blue-white screening of bacterial colonies that can induce the expression of lac manipulators in e. coli. IPTG plays a role in binding and altering the conformation of lacI repressors to prevent the inhibition of the beta-galactosidase encoding gene lacZ.
