A.Wear surgical gloves, select the roll of proper size. Apply stockinette or protective padding over the affected body part.
B.Open the package, immerse the roll of cast in room temperature water (21°C -24°C) for 4- 6 seconds, and squeeze 2- -3 times to complete penetration of water into the roll, take it out and squeeze water off.(the temperature of water is proportional to set time. the higher temperature shorten the set time, while the lower temperature lengthens it Temperature of water warmer than 27°C,obviously shorten the set time,hardly for the surgery.)
C.Wrap cast spirally, overlapping the previous layer by one-half or two-thirds the width of the roll Keep the proper tension and take care to avoid excessive tightness Excessive looseness will reduce the adhesion between layers, excessive tightness will affect the blood circulation of injured parts.(the strength can be determined by the number of layers used the more layers, the stronger. Just 3-4 layers provide a strong non-weight-bearing cast and 5-6 layers are typically adequate for weight-bearing cast. Additional layers need to keep a proper adhesion.)
D.Smooth and rub the surface to achieve good contact between layers. Finish the whole operation in 3- 5 minutes. (Overtime will affect the adhesion and molding., Injured parts cannot move before the sufficient cure of cast.)
[Tip]Cast trimmed or removed with electric plaster saw equipment.
