Many non-metal non-polar materials have less absorption of rays in this band, so they can be used to detect the internal structure of materials. for example, ceramics/cardboard/plastic products/foams are transparent to electromagnetic radiation in this band, and can also be used for airport/station safety monitoring, such as detecting machinery/explosives and drugs, or for circuit board welding detection.

Easily absorbed by polar molecules; this band has less scattering in non-uniform materials, and can detect and measure water vapor content. It is also possible to study the material composition or carry out quality control by analyzing their characteristic spectrum.
